Also known as the Old Bridge of Quelfes, it is a bridge of Roman origin, built in the first century AD, and once rebuilt several times, considered one of the most important road structures of the Roman occupation period in the Eastern Algarve.
Its structure is relatively modest, assuming then that it was a bridge of passage on a secondary road connecting to any agrarian and private villas.
With a historical status, the bridge is mainly recognized by the fact that on June 18, 1808, Napoleon's troops were defeated in the vicinity of this bridge, a point of uprising throughout the Algarve.
On the outskirts of Quelfes (on the way to the small village of Brancanes), the bridge of Roman origin, reconstructed several times, is a testimony to its antiquity and historical-
The Roman Bridge recently underwent restoration work in 2005.
