Aussi connu sous le vieux pont de Quelfes, il s'agit d'un pont d'origine romaine, construit au premier siècle de notre ère et reconstruit à plusieurs reprises, considéré comme l'un des plus importants ouvrages routiers de l'occupation romaine de l'est de l'Algarve.
Sa structure est relativement modeste, supposant alors qu’il s’agissait d’un pont de passage sur une route secondaire reliant toutes villas agraires et privées.
Avec un statut historique, le pont est principalement reconnu par le fait que le 18 juin 1808, les troupes de Napoléon ont été vaincues à proximité de ce pont, un point de soulèvement dans tout l'Algarve.
Aux abords de Quelfes (sur le chemin du petit village de Brancanes), le pont d’origine romaine, reconstruit à plusieurs reprises, témoigne de son antiquité et de son histoire.
Le pont romain a récemment fait l’objet de travaux de restauration en 2005.
