Der Eingang zum Inneren der Zisterne, die vom Gemeinderat von Evoramonte im Jahr 2002 frei zugänglich war, hat eine kleine Tür mit geraden Schultern und Stürzen aus Granit, durch die die Bewohner das Wasser holen konnten. [...]
Möglicherweise handelt es sich bei dem Denkmal um ein Werk nach dem Erdbeben von 1531, das wahrscheinlich gebaut wurde, um einen demografischen Rückgang in diesem Gebiet zu verhindern, da bekannt ist, dass sich bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt keine Trinkwasserquelle innerhalb der Mauern befand, was einen Anreiz für die Dauerhaftigkeit darstellte und das Wachstum der Bevölkerung in der Gemeinde.

Die öffentliche Zisterne von Evoramonte befindet sich in der Nähe der Mauer in der Westzone der Festung in der Straße, die später zur Misericordia führt. Wären es nicht die zwei zylindrischen Düsen, die aus dem Rest des Geländes herausragen, hätten wir es kaum geschafft, wenn wir von Porta do Freixo gekommen wären, da die Zisterne unterirdisch ist.
