La spiaggia di San Mateo è una delle poche spiagge della città di Valparaiso, poiché gran parte della costa è occupata dal porto. Si trova vicino alla Shelter Mole e alla vecchia Emerald Battery, all'inizio di Avenida Altamirano, sulla strada per Playa Ancha.
La spiaggia iniziò ad emergere artificialmente alla fine degli anni sessanta a seguito di un ampliamento determinato dal comune di Valparaiso. Il recinto ha spogliatoi, docce, bagnini e chioschi per la vendita di bibite e cibo.
La spiaggia viene occasionalmente utilizzata dalla Marina cilena per l'addestramento e l'atterraggio di truppe e veicoli anfibi e terrestri. Nel tuo ambiente, le istruzioni per l'immersione vengono eseguite anche dalla stessa Marina.
Nonostante i suoi magri 150 metri di lunghezza, questa spiaggia è una delle preferite dal pubblico grazie alle sue attrezzature complete e alla sicurezza del nuoto. C'è anche una piscina di acqua salata dove i bambini si divertono.
È dotato di: edicola, telefono pubblico, bagno pubblico, spogliatoi, docce, noleggio ombrelloni e lettini.
