Initially it was a quiet fishing village, very calm, quiet, until it was frequented by surfers and then tourists from all over the planet. It is famous for having one of the busiest nights in the state, has a large number of hotels, inns, hostels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and is always full, whether in high or low season.
Pipa remains a place that attracts many surfers due to its waves, and has recently been sought by kite surfers, thanks to the combination of beautiful waves and good winds.
The name "kite" is due to the fact that the Portuguese when passing by ship nearby saw a stone that resembled a shape of a kite. Pipa, in Portugal, is the most common denomination for wine or olive oil barrels.
