On July 28, 1912 this service was inaugurated, the railway was a fundamental tool for the development of the region. After 1990 it stopped working, and there is only a museum of the first locomotive called ´´Quepe.
It is being exhibited in the Costanera, in front of the Regional Museum.

By plane
There are daily departures from Santiago to Puerto Montt that last approximately 2 hours. The ´´El Tepual´´ Airport in Puerto Montt is located only 16 km. away from the city.
By car
Heading north or south, you must follow the Panamericana Sur highway or Ruta 5 Sur. From Osorno there are 109 km of asphalt road.

With more than 100 years of history in Puerto Montt, the Quepe locomotive is part of the pictorial exhibition ´´Estación del Regreso´´, an exhibition by the plastic artist Marcelo Paredes that takes place in the Pablo Neruda room next to the Museum John Paul II.
In the collection of 12 acrylic paintings, the painter used as a model the old machine from the southernmost station in the world and also the locomotive that today accompanies it to Quepe on the waterfront, the 606 railway.
At one point in the life of Puerto Montt, both trains served as the main means of transportation for the south of the country.
