Goa
Goa is a state of India. It lies between Maharashtra to the north and Karnataka to the east and south, on the coast of the Arabian Sea, some 400 km south of Bombay. It is the smallest of the Indian states in territory and fourth lowest in population, and the richest in GDP per capita of India.
Its official language is concani, but there are still people in this state who speak Portuguese, due to the dominion of Portugal in the region for more than 400 years. Its main cities are Vasco da Gama, Pangim, Margão and Mapuçá. Goa, from 1510, was the capital of the Portuguese State of India, having been integrated into India after being seized by the Indian army in 1961 by defeating the meager Portuguese military forces present.
Its churches and convents are classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Tourism
Today Goa is one of the smallest states in the nation and although much of its Portuguese past is rapidly disappearing, much of the colonial atmosphere still resists. Its idyllic beaches are a popular tourist destination, luring from late hippies to backpackers of all ages. The regional architecture is quite distinct from the rest of the country, full of Catholic churches and buildings of European lines. Although Hinduism is the predominant religion, a syncretic Catholicism is embraced by an influential and elitist minority.
Another fruit of the confluence between Indians and Portuguese is their local cuisine, with delicious dishes with seafood that can be enjoyed in stalls by the sea. Panjim is the capital of Goa and concentrates much of the banking, transportation and communication services, but the countless and friendly villages scattered around the waterfront each have a different atmosphere. This means sometimes a beach crowded with young people dancing to the sound of a "piling", sometimes a quiet and romantic sunset under a palm tree.
Gastronomy
The Goan cuisine consists of popular regional foods in Goa, located along the west coast of India along the Sea.
Arabian seafood, coconut milk, rice, spices and house are the main ingredients of Goan cuisine. The area is located in a tropical climate and this means intense spices and flavors. The use of Kokum is another distinctive feature.
The cuisine of Goa is influenced by its Hindu origins, four hundred years of Portuguese colonialism and modern techniques. The state is often visited by tourists for its beaches and historical sites, so its food has an international look.
Weather
The climate of Goa is hot and humid for most of the year. The month of May is the hottest, with daytime temperatures reaching 35 ° C (95 ° F).
The monsoons arrive around the beginning of June. Then Goa receives the full blast of monsoons in India, with sudden torrential rains and tropical thunderstorms. It is during the monsoon that Goa has its most beautiful vegetation. Most of Goa's annual rainfall is received through monsoons that last through the end of September. The cool season is very short lasting between mid-December and February. These months are marked by cold nights, with temperatures of around 20ºC (68ºF) and hot days of around 29ºC (84ºF). Moisture remains in moderate amounts.
