Peso da Régua
Peso da Régua (often known as the syncopated form of Régua) is a Portuguese city in the Vila Real District, Northern Region and Douro sub-region.
It is the seat of a municipality with 94.86 km² in area and subdivided into 8 parishes.
The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipalities of Santa Marta de Penaguião and Vila Real, to the east by Sabrosa, to the south by the Douro River, southwest by Mesão Frio and to the west by Baião.
The municipality was created in 1836 by the dismemberment of Santa Marta de Penaguião, its headquarters being elevated to city status in 1987. It is also known as the international capital of wine and vineyards.
Land of big names including the Doctor and Writer João de Araujo Correia, Ferreirinha, Antão de Carvalho, Joaquim Manuel Magalhães, Jaime Silva (painter) among other names of great local and national importance.
It is the center of the demarcated Douro region. It is in the central part of the Douro Line, between Porto and Pocinho.
