Foz do Iguacu
Foz do Iguaçu is a Brazilian city in the state of Paraná.
Discovered by Spanish pioneers in 1542, the gigantic estuary witnessed the arrival of settlers for the exploitation of the mate, giving origin to the settlement of the region.
Cosmopolitan city, with a strategic geopolitical location, within the Common Market of the South (Mercosur), brings together the largest human concentration, coming from 73 nationalities, and the most complete urban infrastructure in South America.
Today it is the second destination of foreign tourists in the country and the first one of the south region, located in the border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, the city counts on an extensive hotel network.
The beauties of the Iguaçu National Park deserve to be admired both from the top, by helicopter, and on the exciting boat trips.
Other reasons that keep the region among the five most visited in the country are the colossal Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Station, purchases on the Paraguayan side of the border and the casinos on Argentine soil.
Known internationally by Iguaçu Falls, one of the winners of the contest that chose the 7 Wonders of Nature and the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant, the second largest in the world in size and the first in the amount of energy generation, which in 1996 was considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Other attractions include the Bird Park, Devil's Throat, nautical adventures, boat trips through the upper arm of the Iguazú and visits to San Martín island.
A no less pleasant option is to spend an evening in Puerto Iguazú.
The gastronomy of Foz do Iguaçu offers typical dishes of more than 80 different nationalities, due to the impact that these, when setting in the region, caused in the local cuisine.
