Tahiti
Tahiti (French Tahiti) is the largest island in French Polynesia, located on the islands of the Society Islands. The capital is Papeete, located on the northwest coast of the island. It has a length of 45 kilometers at its most distant points, and covers approximately 1,036 square kilometers. Its highest peak, Mount Orohena, culminates at 2,241 meters above sea level. The weather is hot and humid.

The island consists of two almost circular portions centered in the volcanic mountains, connected by a small isthmus called Taravao, because of the city situated there. The northeastern part is known as Tahiti Nui (Great Tahiti), and the much smaller southeastern part is known as Tahiti Iti (Small Tahiti) or Taiarapu. The Tahiti Nui part is quite populous, especially near Papeete and has a good infrastructure such as roads and highways, while Tahiti Iti is still quite isolated and its south-eastern part (Te Pari) is accessible only by boats.

The predominant vegetation is of a very abundant tropical forest. The rainy season is between November and April.

The airport that serves the island is called Aéroport International de Faaa.

Weather
The best time to visit French Polynesia is between April and October when the heat is at an ideal level and the Pacific Ocean gains more life with the blue of the sky.
From November to March, the high amount of rainfall can ruin any type of walk.
Tourism
Being the main island, Tahiti ended up having its name popularly attributed to all of French Polynesia. Its importance lies in the fact that its capital, Papeete, is where most of the Polynesian population lives - so it is the best destination there to get in touch with the local culture and to experience some turmoil.

And it is no coincidence that Tahiti is the largest region of French Polynesia since it offers the best of the place on one island: paradisiacal beaches, luxury hotels and resorts and a magnificent nature with trails that culminate in the Aorai, meters high, with incredible panoramic views. Among the beaches, we highlight Toareto and Papenoo, favorite of tourists who stay in luxury resorts.
Gastronomy
The Tahitian region offers several dishes based on seafood.

The typical dish is fresh tuna marinated in coconut milk. At the traditional Tamaara'a party, a banquet of meats and vegetables cooked in an oven buried in the sand is served. Typical fish from the region are mahi mahi, parrotfish, tuna, bonito and swordfish. It is very common to find a fish fillet on an uninhabited islet.
