Oslo
Oslo (formerly Christiania or Kristiania) is the capital and largest city of Norway. It is located in the southeast of the country and simultaneously holds the status of commune and county. Founded by Harald Hardrada in 1048 at the bottom of a fjord and even today surrounded by a dense forest, Oslo life is closely linked to the sea.
Not as beautiful as some of its Scandinavian neighbors, yet Oslo is a nice town that deserves to be known. Among its main attractions are the Viking Ship Museum - which preserves three original vessels and several objects of the great Nordic explorers and the fantastic Fram Museum, built especially to house the ship Fram, used by national heroes like Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen in their countless trips, including the successful conquest of the South Pole.
Other symbols of the city are the massive Akershus fortress, built to protect the harbor, and the Frognerparken park, famous for the numerous sculptures by Gustav Vigeland.
