Mangaratiba
Mangaratiba is a municipality in the Microregion of Itaguaí, in the Metropolitan Meso-region of Rio de Janeiro, located 85 kilometers from the state capital.
The city's setting is attractive with a backdrop of mountains, a beautiful bay ahead with anchored fishing boats and an 18th century church dominating the main square.
Its most important districts are Muriqui, Ibicuí and Itacuruçá.
Many large bulk carriers enter the port of Mangaratiba to carry heavy loads of iron ore to other ports, especially in Europe. As such, the port of Mangaratiba is one of the largest in Brazil.
A little of the history of colonial Mangaratiba can be remembered as it traverses the Imperial road and its engineering landmarks (the first asphalted road in Brazil - in 1850). It was built to meet the flow of coffee and the slave trade.
The ruins of Saco de Cima, the Mother Church "XVIII century", the Manor of Barão do Sahy, and some mansions are highlights in the narrow streets of the Center.
