Miami
Miami is a large city and county seat of Miami-Dade, located on the Atlantic coast in southeastern Florida in the south-eastern United States and is part of the largest metropolitan area in Florida. It is part of the South Florida region, is 20 miles from Fort Lauderdale, 106 miles from Naples (Florida) and 156 miles from Key West.
Tourism
Miami is one of the world's cities with most popular tourist spots, such as:
The fantastic atmosphere of South Beach's nightlife, the bustle of Calle Ocho, the highly caffeinated energy of Little Havana, Miami Beach's five-star hotels and the historic corners of Coral Gables.
Opportunities for seemingly endless shopping in modern malls offer the personal attention offered by the Coconut Grove family stores and many other corners of the area.
Deep sea fishing, golf tennis, soccer, basketball, hockey and baseball championships.
Boat shows and car racing.
Art and food festivals and wine outdoor extravagances.
An international airport and busiest cruise port in the world.
The Miami area offers all this - and more.
Gastronomy
The gastronomy of Miami is a true cultural mix that was born mainly from the fusion of European traditions of Latin America and Africa.
Miami has a large variety of Cuban influenced dishes, mostly chicken or lamb stew. Meat is usually cooked in tomato sauce with vegetables (peppers and onions) and served over the rice.
Other important dishes are fried pork chops, grilled fish, rice with tomatoes, peppers and onions, served with ham or sausage, and the traditional African dish: "gumbo" (seafood soup usually with crab or shrimp), mixed with rice when served.
Their traditional drinks and meals come from other countries, such as Cuban coffee, served in thimble-sized glasses. "Sangria" is also common, some people consider it a Mexican, Spanish drink whose preparation involves mixing red wine, chopped fruit, soda and cognac or rum.
The variety of flavors and colors in desserts is due to its corresponding region, so one can find the traditional varieties such as cheese, "pump fruit" with cream cheese (minced papaya, cooked with sugar and cinnamon, served with a cheese), the "tres leches" cake, and rice pudding, just to name a few.
Weather
Due to its low latitude, Miami has a subtropical savannah climate. There are two seasons in Miami, a hot and dry season from November to mid-April, and a hot and humid season from May to October.
The rainy months are in the summer from June to September reaching the highest temperature during the day of 80ºF and high humidity.
The coldest months are in the winter from December to March with minimum temperatures in the order of 60º F, in sunny and dry weather.
Sometimes the winter can be quite dry, with water restrictions and cold waves. Miami has the hottest ocean waves after Honolulu in the United States annually - reaching 85 degrees F in the summer and 75 degrees F in the winter.
